CHESTER-LE-STREET

NORTH AND EAST

Beaty Bainbridge (Con)
Beaty Bainbridge, married to Allan a retired Police Officer from Durham Constabulary. I was born in Chester-le-Street, on leaving school I worked in local shops then opened my own business in Chester-le-Street 'Homespun' wool and baby clothes shop. I have campaigned on many issues over the years, the main one being on the committee to Stop The Bail Hostel coming to Chester-le-Street. From this was born our North End Residents Association which I am treasurer. I am also on the management committee of Chester-le-Street Youth Centre. I believe in Family Values and a Safer Community.

Lancelot Edward William Brown (Ind)

Maureen Diana May (Con)
Maureen is the current Conservative District Councillor on Chester East Ward. She has lived in Chester le Street for the past 29 years, and is a State Registered Nurse. Maureen has a great passion for Chester-le-Street and its community. She thinks that it is a wonderful place to live and wants to help to improve and keep it that way. She believes that the main priorities in the North and East Ward and Chester le Street in general are: High quality street maintenance and cleansing; High visibility policing; Good quality local schools; Better shops; better car parking; better Town!

John Shiell (Lab)
Tracie Jane Smith (Lab)

SOUTH

John Edward Adey (Ind)
I grew up in the mining village of Chester Moor and moved to Chester-le-Street in 1959 where I currently live with my wife Joan. A strong family man who believes that all children should have an equal chance; free National Health for all and good care for the elderly. Living locally I am aware of the issues that concern people and promise together we can make a difference. I ask the voters of Chester South to support my nomination and send me to the County/Unitary authority with a voice for change. Not a voice of the Party masters in Westminster.

Allan Bainbridge (Con)
Allan Bainbridge, married to Beaty and has lived in Chester-le-Street for over 28 years. I am a retired Police Officer from Durham Constabulary. I have been heavily involved in many concerns over the years and understand the problems with Crime and Anti Social Behaviour and relate to peoples issues on these matters. I pledge, if elected, to tackle peoples concerns, my vision as aspirations are the peoples I want to see Chester-le-Street regenerated so together we have a town to be proud of.

Keith Davidson (Lab)
Brian Kinghorn (Lib Dem)
Heather Sara Liddle (Lab)

Philip Bernard Nathan (Lib Dem)
I am an experienced manager and teacher, and I believe that this experience, together with my experience as a District Councillor in Chester-le-Street, will help me to serve the people of Chester South and County Durham effectively on the new Unitary authority. As a District Councillor I have worked hard for the different areas of my ward and the people in my ward.
I am a passionate believer in local government, the more local the better, and will be looking to support the devolution of power and resources to local people through local organisations such as parish councils.

Nick Varley (Con)
Nick is not a politician, he is simply a hard working local campaigner from Chester-le-Street who wants to provide a real voice on the new style council for the residents of Waldridge, Edmondsley, Garden Farm and Chester Moor. Nick has pledged that if elected, he will vote against any proposed Council Tax increases and against any proposals to slash weekly bin collection, and will make fighting anti-social behaviour his absolute priority. Vote Nick Varley on May 1st!

WEST

Jacquelyn Butler (Con)

Simon Antony Henig (Lab)
Simon has lived in Chester-le-Street for 12 years. Married to Katherine with two young children, Samuel (5) and Lucy (2), he is a lecturer at Sunderland University, making regular appearances on regional television and radio. As a councillor for Chester West, Simon has been working tirelessly to clean up our local area along with other improvements and has also produced regular newsletters and taken up hundreds of individual cases. Simon continues to campaign for further improvements throughout the area and asks for your continued support.

Linda Marshall (Lab)

LUMLEY

Alan Bell (Ind)
Independent and free from political parties. Born and raised in Great Lumley. Married and have three children. An elected member of Great Lumley Parish Council. One of my main concerns are the lack of facilities for the young people in our villages. This was also the case in my youth. Little has changed. ......Time for change. I am passionate about the area we live in and will work for the best interests of all the residents in our communities....Listen to local views, and represent local opinions to the very best of my ability within the Unitary Council.

Rita Carr (Lab)
I have lived in Great Lumley for 16 years and am married with two children and five grandchildren. I have served as a Parish councillor for eight years and have a wealth of experience having worked for a number of councils, including representing Chester South on the County Council since 2005. I have been a member of Great Lumley Residents Association since its inception and have been a school governor at Great Lumley Infants School. If elected I promise to work tirelessly for all residents across the area.

Geoffrey Cutting (Lib Dem)

Lucille Diana Nicholson (Con)
Lucille Nicholson lives close to Lumley with her husband Mark and runs a farm and agricultural related enterprises. Currently Chairman of Conservative Business Relations (North-East) she works closely with local business and residents to ensure Chester-Le-Street will not be forgotten in the new Unitary Authority. She wants better use of taxpayers money to regenerate Lumley for shopping, business and residents, for the benefit of young and old, tackling litter in areas like Seven Acres, keeping Post Offices open and fighting against ever-increasing Council Tax and Labour stealth taxes that hit the lowest incomes the hardest.

Florinda Rowe (Lib Dem)
Brian Walker (Lab)
Julie Ann Watson (Con)

Audrey Willis (Ind)
I would like to represent the Residents of Bournmoor, Great Lumley, Woodstone Village, And Fencehouses, as Independent Councillor, for the new Unitary Council because, I (believe) that local issues should be addressed by the residents of our communities, and not by a Councillor that will follow Party Policy no matter what. Our Villages have been controlled for too long by small groups of people that are there for their own political gains. I will work for our Community I will ask the questions at council and I will defend the quality of life in our Villages.

OUSTON AND URPETH

Colin Carr (Lab)
I have served as a Durham County Councillor since December 2006, during which time I have worked tirelessly for all of our residents and communities in Ouston, Urpeth, High Handenhold, Beamish, Grange Villa and West Pelton. I have prioritised road safety, with road calming measures put in place in Grange Villa and Urpeth, better pedestrian signage and speed monitoring visors. I am a governor at Ouston Infants School, Ouston Junior School and Roseberry Sports and Community College. I have supported the Handen Hold banner, Grange Villa Community Project and Elderly Peoples transport to G.P.`s surgeries.

George Herbert Gardner (Lib Dem)

Jeffrey Gray (Con)
I was born and educated in Gateshead. I have lived in Chester-le-Street for 39 years, with my wife. We have one son. I am a retired Local Government Officer. My interests include the Institute of Advanced Motorists, and voluntary work for the Parish Church and the Community. A vote for me would give electors:
* A voice on the actions of the Unitary Authority and how their money is spent.
* Someone to campaign for cleaner streets, with less litter and graffiti.
* Someone to take action to improve life in your area.

Denis Edwin Jackson (Lib Dem)
Oliver Peter May (Con)
Maureen Potts (Lab)

PELTON

Jim Cordon (Lab)

Peter Howard May (Con)
Peter was elected as Conservative District Councillor for the North Lodge Ward 14 years ago. During these years, he has served the people of his ward and Chester-le-Street with honesty and openness and has been privileged to sit on several committees which have included planning, licensing, finance and housing. With his wide experience, he is considered as an ideal candidate for the new unitary authority. Peter believes that there needs to be active opposition to Labour in County Durham and is looking forward to representing all of the people of Pelton & North Lodge Ward.

Mike Sekowski (Lab)

SACRISTON

Lynne Michelle Cowan (Lib Dem)
I am standing for election in Sacriston. I'm married with four children, the two girls attend Fyndoune CC and the two boys attend St Bede's RC in Sacriston. I attend the Toddler group and the SureStart group in Sacriston. I'm a parish councillor in Witton Gilbert and an active member of the Community Centre Association. As a registered childminder, I work from home, so I understand that local businesses need to be supported, and as a parent, I realise that our communities, schools and leisure services are worth protecting and supporting.
