Arrests over social club stabbing

THREE men were arrested and are to be questioned by police over a stabbing incident at a social club in the early hours of today.

It follows the alleged multiple stabbing of a man in an incident at Castletown Workingmen's Club, in Sunderland.

Officers were called to the premises, in Castle View, Castletown, at around 1.15am after a report was made of a man having been stabbed.

A Northumbria force spokeswoman said it emerged that the victim suffered several stab wounds to both his front and back in the incident.

The 20-year-old man was taken for treatment to Sunderland Royal Hospital, but his injuries were described as, "not life threatening".

Three local men were arrested in relation to the offence and inquiries undertaken by Sunderland CID were said to have been "on-going".

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police on 08456-043043.
