AN exhibition celebrating
the first century of the
Scouting movement in the
region has opened.
Scouting in County
Durham will be on view at
Beamish Museum's
Regional Resource Centre
until Sunday.
It is aimed at Scouts past
and present and is sure to
bring boyhood memories
flooding back for former
members of the
organisation.
There are uniforms,
memorabilia, photographs,
video footage and reports
collected from the past 100
years.
Scouts of all ages will be
on hand to talk to visitors
and share their memories
and experiences.
Bryan Scott, district
chairman of Chester-le-
Street District Scout
Association, said: "The
exhibition is a celebration
of the first 100 years of
scouting.
"It started in 1907 and
you can see how it has
progressed and developed
a more modern approach
over the years.
"As you go round the
exhibition you can see how
it culminates in the world
jamboree, which was held
in Essex last year.
"People can see
Scouting in ten-year slugs
to see how it has
progressed up to the
present time."
The exhibition is open
between 11am and 4pm.
